Fathers Day & Waffles

So in Australia, fathers day is the first Sunday in September! We figured we should celebrate in September vs. June (American Fathers Day) because it is a lot easier to remember thanks to all the billboards and radio ads! Anyway, here is a list of all the different countries and when they celebrate (almost everyone celebrates at a different time:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Father's_Day)

The kids were cute and really looking forward to it all. Mary's preschool did a fathers day morning tea with their fathers, where all the kids brought out some paintings they had made of their dads. Here is Mary's
Olivia's school had a fathers day stall where the kids would get to pick out a gift for their dad's and bring it home. I sent her with $10.00 and she came back with a game (which she played and lost the pieces to) and a bag of lindt chocolate...one was left the rest were eaten :-)
Stan said all he wanted for fathers day was Waffles....so I had to find a waffle iron which was really difficult in Australia. Everyone kept telling me "it is really not the season for waffles" I was like "season????" I went to 4 stores (K-mart, target, the mall and finally found one at Davey Jones (a high end dept store). They had ONE left in their stupid stainless steal display.....$100.00 (I looked at the lady and said "in America we have waffle irons everywhere, plastic ones for $25.00" She didn't really care. I grabbed it in case there was another desperate American near by and walked the store for nearly an hour just to make sure they didn't have another one (cheaper) somewhere else....they didn't! I suppose if we eat waffles every day for the next five years it will have been a steal of a deal!
Happy Fathers day Stan!!

We did not know there was a season for waffles! You better keep that waffle iron for forever and have it become a Swinton heirloom. Loved the story, and HAPPY FATHER'S DAY STAN (or belated).

How fun is that?? Too bad there isn't a Costco there. They have an awesome waffle iron. It is restaurant quality for only 60 bucks. :)

I do love a good waffle!
